But when I see [Web 2.0] logos I dont think applications: I see services which I prefer to access via desktop client apps. I post to Flickr by selecting a batch of photos in Aperture and then clicking the Flickr button. I Tweet from Tweetie on my iPhone. I fetch my email with a desktop mail client.

You’re trading one walled garden for another, except Google doesn’t have any design or UX sense.
