Passed!

The grades were posted for my final course in my JavaEE certificate program. Aced it! I’m honestly stunned. I felt like I had done well on the final exam, but not “100%” well! Glad its over though since December is plenty hectic enough on its own.

With school out of the way I may even have time to play some pick-up hockey this winter!

Happiness is…

I’ve come to the realization that there are (relatively) few BIG HAPPY events in life. Things like falling in love, getting married, having a child, or going on an amazing vacation certainly qualify as BIG HAPPY events. Between these unevenly spaced events is where “real life” is lived. Real life can seem comparatively mundane. Its a lot of routine and a lot of time spent doing things you don’t want to be doing. Given this reality plenty of life gets wasted looking forward to that next BIG HAPPY event.

The sad thing about looking forward is that you tend to miss what is right beside you.

Every day amongst all the repetition and noise, small but wonderful things happen: smiles, laughs, kisses, hugs, messages… presence. The trick to being happy day-to-day then is to catch each little happy event and enjoy it every way you possibly can. Live in that short moment. Stretch it. Appreciate it.

^^^ This is what I need to do more often. I’ve done it before and it works though I seem to have forgotten lately. Hopefully by writing it down I won’t forget again and maybe (just maybe) it will help someone else out there.

Random little-known fact: way back in 2006 I designed the icon for Andy Matuschak’s ubiquitous app-updating framework, Sparkle. I found this blast from the past lurking about on my hard drive this morning. :)

You tried to take my Mom, and last week you took my Dad. It ends here. Help me fight back.

I miss my Dad.
Cancer stole him from us last year and this year in his memory I will be teaming up with my family to participate in the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life. Please reblog this and/or sponsor me if you are financially able to do so.
